River Wey Trips Title

The River Wey, Surrey
Pictorial Map of Rivery Wey NagivationsThe River Wey Navigation was opened from the Thames at Weybridge to Guildford in 1653, one of the first waterways in the country to be 'canalised' making it suitable for large craft. It was considered the fast and easy route to and from London, transporting a variety of goods including gunpowder. In 1764 the Godalming Navigation opened from Guildford to Godalming, completing the 19.5 miles of today's River Wey.
Mr Harry Stevens was the last proprietor of the Wey Navigations, and in 1964 he donated the River to the National Trust who have preserved this historic waterway's peaceful and unspoilt character, making it truly one of Surrey's best kept secrets.

One Day Narrowboat Hire from Farncombe Boat House

NORSEMAN - VIKING - SAXON - ROMAN
Ideal for a special day out with Family, Friends or Business Colleagues

There is nothing to compare with a day on the river. You will cruise through woodlands and meadows from Farncombe towards Guildford, passing through locks, beneath the ruins of St Catherine's chapel, Guildford Castle and historic Dapdune Wharf before turning back.
We will advise you on pretty picnic spots and characterful pubs on the way or you may prefer to wine and dine on board. Each of our purpose built day narrowboats accommodate up to 10 people and are ideal for entertaining. The facilities on board include comfortable seating areas both inside and out in the large front cockpits, a small fridge to keep your drinks cool, an oven, a full inventory of cutlery and crockery and a toilet compartment.

You will receive full instruction at Catteshall Lock before setting out for the day to explore the peaceful River Wey, from Farncombe to the Rowbarge Pub north of Guildford.
Hiring a boat is the perfect tonic to a busy lifestyle. Celebrate a birthday or anniversary, use one boat (or maybe two), as the basis for an entertaining corporate day for staff or clients. Or try a day to see if you might like a longer narrowboat holiday in the future.
We promise you a great day out, whatever the season. The river is particularly quiet and beautiful in spring and autumn. Your children will love the adventure of it all - your business colleagues will enjoy their time away from the office!
