River Wey Trips Title

The Alfred Leroy

Dine and Cruise 2008

Cruising down the river with colleagues or friends and enjoying good food and wine is a unique way of spending a lunchtime or evening. Once again the Alfred Leroy and Hector & Sons Catering designed menus to suit most tastes.
You can choose from a simple 1½ hour lunchtime cruise to a 2½ hour cruise with a luxury menu. This can sometimes be extended sometimes if you are celebrating a special occasion.

All the cruises on the Alfred Leroy take you southwards from Guildford passing through (in our opinion) the most beautiful and peaceful stretch of the River Wey and Godalming Navigation. You’ll see the Water Meadows and Saint Catherine’s Golden Sands and Ferry (used many years ago by the Pilgrims on their way to Canterbury).
Guildford takes its name from the ‘Golden Ford’. You will pass through Saint Catherine’s Lock and then turn either at a winding hole for the shorter trips, or at Stonebridge Wharf where the Wey joins the entrance to the Wey and Arun Canal. This canal is now being restored by volunteer groups, who one day hope to link the Navigation to the south coast. The Navigation was built over 350 years ago to take amongst other things, gunpowder from Albury to London. Nowadays it is owned and maintained by the National Trust.

The Alfred Leroy commences the season on Easter Saturday and continues through to mid October.
The normal departure times are 12 noon or 12.30pm at lunchtime, 3pm or 3.30pm for tea trips or 7pm to 7.30pm for dinner.
Please note that from September onwards the days draw in and it is advisable to start earlier in the evening.
It is also the National Trust ruling that the boat must be tied up by 10pm. The Alfred Leroy is closed for lunch on Monday and Friday.

On board you will find seating at fixed tables raised on platforms with a narrow central aisle. Tables 4, 6, 8 & 10 seat up to 6 people (only on small menus); tables 1, 2, 3, 5, 7 & 9 take 4 people. On all menus there is a licensed bar and a selected wine list. The maximum number of guests allowed onboard is 49 and the minimum number for a party booking is 25. For the more exclusive menus the maximum is 40 people for comfort. If you are a smaller group you can still use the Leroy but this would mean paying for the minimum of 25.

Menu selection - Parties of 25 to 49 people - Because of limited space we ask that the whole party select the same menu. Bar and wines are available on all menus (except afternoon tea)

To Make a Booking
1. Take a look at the options and decide on the type of menu you require. Next decide on the time and date. Please try and have an alternative date in mind, as some days and dates are popular. You can then phone and make a provisional booking on 01483 504494 or use our contact form and if the boat is free we will take a provisional booking.
2. You will have 7 days to confirm your booking: A £75.00 non-refundable deposit is required at this time.
3. You will be then issued with 2 invoices confirming all the details of your cruise; one from Guildford Boat House with the details of the trip; the second from Hector's and Sons Catering for the menu. At this point if you wish to alter or query anything please do so by phone immediately. Once we are cruising it will be too late as only the food you ordered will be onboard.
4. Your final party numbers and balance must be made no later than 14 days before the trip. No further alterations will be accepted after this date.

Payment methods can be made by cash, cheque or credit/debit card.
